Israel says it is ready for defensive and offensive operations against Iran

Three Iranian missiles aimed at Aqaba, Jordan, on July 19 were intercepted before reaching their target. Fragments fell near Eilat, prompting Israel's air defense system to activate for the first time since the April 7 ceasefire. Explosions from Iron Dome interceptors were heard in the Red Sea resort.

Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the military is prepared to conduct both defensive and offensive operations against Iran.

The April 7 ceasefire was brokered by the United States and Iran.

Israel had been directly involved in the initial phase of the conflict. Representatives from the defense ministry, speaking anonymously to Yedioth Ahronoth, said the end of the World Cup in the United States removed barriers to further escalation and presented an opportunity to address Iran's nuclear program. The Israeli Defense Ministry declined to comment when contacted by Le Monde.
