The Israeli military called on residents to leave their homes despite a truce with Lebanon in place since mid-April that had been intended to halt the fighting. The evacuation order covered more than half a dozen villages in southern Lebanon.
The strikes occurred hours after the evacuation warning was issued on Saturday. One of the fatalities occurred in the vehicle struck between Burj Rahal and Aabbasiyyeh. Several more strikes landed in the surrounding towns throughout the day. Al Jazeera’s Obaida Hitto reported from Tyre as explosions echoed in nearby areas during a live broadcast.
The increased pace of Israeli attacks came despite the existing truce agreement.
The mid-April truce had aimed to stop cross-border fighting between Israel and Hezbollah that had escalated over preceding months. Saturday’s strikes and evacuation orders signal that the ceasefire is under significant strain. No immediate casualties were reported from the strikes in Nabatieh, Kafra, Haris, or Mansouri beyond the three confirmed deaths.
