Jersey to Face Extra European Qualifier Round Before 2028 T20 World Cup Global Stage

Jersey will face an extra round of qualifying to reach the 2028 T20 World Cup under a new International Cricket Council format. The Bbc reported that the ICC plans to introduce a Global Qualifier after regional tournaments. Jersey won Sub Regional Europe Qualifier A in May.

That result had positioned the team for what was expected to be the final round of European qualifying next summer alongside Italy, Scotland, the Netherlands, Denmark and one other side. Last year Jersey finished third behind Italy and the Netherlands in the 2025 European T20 World Cup qualifying tournament after beating Scotland.

The team missed qualification for the 2026 T20 World Cup on net run rate.

Under the revised plans, teams that reached the previous T20 World Cup but did not earn automatic qualification for 2028 will enter the Global Qualifier. Jersey will now compete against Scotland, Denmark and one other side, with only the top two advancing to that stage.

In the Global Qualifier the top team from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas and the East Asia-Pacific region will progress, along with the next three highest-placed teams.

The new format has been approved by the ICC Board and will receive final scrutiny from the ICC Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee in November.
