New Jersey System Error Registered 6,600 Noncitizens to Vote

A state system error registered 6,600 noncitizens to vote in New Jersey between 2023 and 2024, state officials said. Roughly 400 ballots were cast by those improperly registered individuals. The applicants entered statements on keypads that they were not citizens, officials said, but the software enrolled them anyway. All 6,600 registrations have since been removed from the voter rolls.

Democratic leadership described the error as appalling and ended the contract with the vendor responsible for the system. Officials have not released additional details on how the registrations were discovered.
