Jon Rahm hit his tee shot out of bounds on the first hole of the final round at the 2026 British Open on July 19 and tore his glove apart in frustration, nypost.com reported. He recorded a double-bogey six on the par-4 opening hole. Rahm repeated the same mistake from the third round the day before.
He began the final round six shots behind leader Sam Burns and stood at 3-over for the round and 1-under for the tournament after eight holes, nine shots behind the leader. Rahm birdied the fifth hole but bogeyed the sixth and seventh. He shot even par in the third round to remain at 4-under for the tournament after 54 holes.
The glove incident marks the second such episode involving a LIV Golf player at Royal Birkdale. Bryson DeChambeau received a two-stroke penalty during the third round on July 17 after it was ruled he improved his lie, nypost.com reported.
Cameron Young reached 8-under overall after 12 holes on Sunday.
