Kimi Antonelli Wins British Grand Prix Sprint Race at Silverstone
Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli overtook pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton on lap 8 to claim his first sprint victory. The 19-year-old finished 2.7 seconds ahead and extended his drivers' championship lead to 43 points.

Kimi Antonelli won the sprint race at the 2026 British Grand Prix at Silverstone on 4 July 2026. Abc reported that the Mercedes driver overtook pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton on lap 8 using Overtake Mode on Hangar Straight and finished 2.7 seconds ahead. Antonelli became the youngest sprint race winner in Formula 1 history at age 19.
He had missed pole position by 0.011 seconds the previous day. Saturday marked the fourth sprint race of the 2026 season, and Hamilton became the first driver this year not to convert sprint pole into a win. Lando Norris finished third after starting sixth.
George Russell took fourth, Charles Leclerc fifth, Max Verstappen sixth, Oscar Piastri seventh and Liam Lawson eighth. Antonelli leads the drivers' championship with 179 points. Russell sits second on 136 points and Hamilton third on 132 points.
A maximum of eight points are awarded for a sprint win. "It was a very fun first 10 laps with Lewis. We were both pushing very hard," Antonelli said. " Qualifying for Sunday's main grand prix followed later in the day.
