Makhachev recovered after taking seven laxative pills by mistake following 2019 Tsarukyan fight

Islam Makhachev required an ambulance after his 2019 fight against Arman Tsarukyan at UFC Fight Night: Saint Petersburg because he ingested seven laxative pills by mistake. Makhachev vomited in the locker room after the bout and told attending UFC doctors to leave because he felt sick. Muslim then advised him to take activated charcoal.

Makhachev initially refused but later accepted the pills. Muslim soon realized he had given the wrong medication and instructed Makhachev to throw up. Muslim left to obtain a manganese solution but returned without it because the substance required a prescription.

An ambulance was called after the error. Makhachev’s weight remained between 73 and 74 kilograms for one month afterward. Doctors prescribed a diet of rice, yet even rice with milk and butter caused vomiting.

Recovery lasted one and a half months. Makhachev also referenced a 2016 positive test for meldonium. The substance had been prescribed after a 2014 heart procedure. “I felt sick,” Makhachev said in his native Russian.
