U.S. officer after he squirted vinegar on Rep. Ilhan Omar during a town hall in January. The 55-year-old Kazmierczak admitted he attacked the Minnesota Democrat because he disagreed with her political views.
Com reported that he rose from his seat at the front of the audience, strode toward the congresswoman, and sprayed her with a syringe containing apple cider vinegar and water. “You’re splitting Minnesotans apart,” Kazmierczak shouted as he backed away. He was tackled to the ground by a member of the congresswoman’s security detail.
The town hall occurred on January 27 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Omar was hosting the event amid the immigration enforcement surge in her state. That gathering took place days after Homeland Security officers shot and killed Alex Pretti.
It occurred weeks after Homeland Security officers killed Renee Good. At the town hall, Ms. Omar called for then-Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to resign. Rep. Ilhan Omar is a Democrat from Minnesota.
Omar briefly halted the town hall but then continued. The incident was captured in photographs showing a man being tackled after spraying an unknown substance on the congresswoman. Kazmierczak’s guilty plea marks the resolution of a case that drew attention to tensions surrounding immigration enforcement in Minnesota.
The congresswoman had used the forum to press for accountability at the Department of Homeland Security following the two fatal encounters involving federal officers. The assault occurred as Kazmierczak approached Omar directly in front of the audience. Security intervened quickly, ending the physical confrontation within moments of the spray.
U.S. Kazmierczak faces sentencing at a later date.
