Manchester City announced Enzo Maresca as its new manager on Monday under a three-year deal. Chelsea said it received compensation from both Manchester City and Maresca as part of a confidential settlement.
Background on the move Maresca joined Chelsea in 2024 on a five-year contract.
He won the Conference League and Club World Cup during his 18 months in charge. He resigned from Chelsea on Jan. 1, 2026. Liam Rosenior replaced him and was later dismissed in April after Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League.
Maresca's statement In an Instagram post, Maresca said he made the decision to leave Chelsea at the end of December 2025. "I recognise that my departure from Chelsea in the middle of the season caused disruption for the club and I apologise for that," he wrote.
Maresca previously worked at Manchester City as head coach of the Elite Development Squad and as an assistant coach between 2022 and 2023.
