Meta is working on always-on smart glasses that record audio continuously and take photos every few seconds. The captured data would feed Meta AI queries while raw footage stays off user devices and company servers.
The VergeMeta is developing prototype smart glasses that would record audio continuously and capture still images every few seconds. The system is described as "super sensing" and would let wearers query Meta AI about the recorded material. The company is considering a design in which raw audio and images are not stored or shown to users.
Instead, metadata extracted from the recordings would be sent to servers for AI processing, according to people familiar with the project.

A July 2025 whitepaper stated the light would activate only when users actively save photos or videos. Meta announced Tuesday that an update will disable the camera if the indicator light is tampered with.
The company is also discussing whether data from the glasses could be used to train its AI models.
Company statement "While we don’t comment on internal prototypes, we’re committed to getting our glasses right because they need to be loved by both people wearing them and those around them," a Meta spokesperson said. The same statement added that the company aims to develop technologies that help people throughout the day with privacy built in from the start.
