Meta introduced an AI image generation model developed by its Superintelligence Labs division. The model is now active in the Meta AI app, Instagram, and WhatsApp, with rollout planned for Facebook and Messenger.
The VergeMeta launched its first AI image generation model created by the Superintelligence Labs division on Tuesday. The Muse Image model now powers image tools in the Meta AI app, Instagram, and WhatsApp, with availability planned for Facebook and Messenger.
The model belongs to the Muse family of AI systems that replace the company's prior Llama lineup. Users can mention other Instagram accounts in prompts, allowing the model to incorporate public photos of those accounts into generated images.
Model capabilities and controls Meta stated that tagging a username lets the AI use public photos to build a visual. Users retain control over how their content is reused for AI purposes. The model supports transforming images with suggested prompts, creating designs such as invitations and postcards, and redesigning rooms from images sourced from Facebook Marketplace or other web locations.
Users can also edit photos by drawing directly on them before sharing to feeds, stories, or chats.
Planned expansions Meta plans to release a Muse Video model.
A division head said the video model is competitive on prompt adherence, visual fidelity, and temporal consistency. The Muse Image model will support 30 new AI effects in Instagram Stories in the U.S. before expanding to additional countries and app areas.
