The breakup released energy equivalent to about 300 tons of TNT, producing a loud noise and shaking houses below. The fireball was captured on video by multiple observers and appeared clearly in satellite imagery. Some residents initially believed the shaking and boom resulted from an earthquake. The United States Geological Survey stated the event was a sonic boom from a suspected bolide.

NASA posted on X that the object produced a bright fireball accompanied by a loud noise. The agency added that the meteor was not associated with any active meteor shower and was a natural object rather than space debris or a satellite re-entry. NASA's deputy news chief told AFP the fireball was unrelated to any current meteor shower activity.
