Mets Fall to Mariners 3-2 in 10 Innings After Manaea Allows One Run in Bulk Relief

Sean Manaea allowed one earned run over five innings in the Mets’ 3-2 loss to the Mariners in 10 innings on June 1 in Seattle. He worked behind an opener in a bulk-relief role and threw 63 pitches, 21 of them sweepers. Manaea said the key to the pitch has been velocity and conviction.

The right-hander has been sidelined since April 26 with lumbar spine inflammation. Mets pitchers entered the day with 560 strikeouts, the most in the National League and second-most in MLB. The total through the club’s first 60 games ranks fourth in franchise history, behind only the 2021 team’s 580.
