Mobile Ad Hoc Network Cloud High Mobility Radio Tested in African Lion 26 Exercise
U.S. and partner forces integrated the Mobile Ad Hoc Network–Cloud High Mobility Radio system at Southern Zone Headquarters in Agadir, Morocco on May 4, 2026 to connect allied sensors into a shared common operational picture. The test advances interoperability among more than 40 nations and accelerates collective decision-making for U.S. Africa Command operations.
thesouthafrican.comU.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Caleb Hilton of the 355th Communications Squadron discussed integration of the Mobile Ad Hoc Network–Cloud High Mobility Radio system during African Lion 26 at Southern Zone Headquarters in Agadir, Morocco on May 4, 2026, the U.S. Department of Defense release shows.
The exercise involved more than 5,600 civilian and military personnel from over 40 nations across Ghana, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia. African Lion 26 is U.S. Africa Command’s largest annual joint exercise, led by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa from April 20 to May 8, 2026.
The proof-of-concept test shifts from siloed sensor data to a shared common operational picture by linking allied and partner sensors through the Mobile Ad Hoc Network–Cloud High Mobility Radio. The integration took place during the exercise that concluded on May 8, 2026 and delivers immediate improvements in interoperability for participating forces.
The change requires partner nations to align sensor outputs to the common network, triggering updates to data-sharing protocols among the 40-plus participating countries. U.S. Africa Command gains an expanded operational picture that feeds directly into command decisions.
Allied units must now incorporate the connected feeds into routine planning cycles, and subsequent exercises will test scaled deployment of the system across additional platforms.
This marks the latest iteration of African Lion, which has run annually to build collective security capabilities. The 2026 exercise emphasized partner-led regional security through innovation, per the U.S. Department of Defense release. The CENTCOM daily release shows the system delivers tactical edge dominance by connecting disparate sensors in a contested environment.
