The NBA plans to launch a new league in Europe in the fall of 2027, ESPN reported. Commissioner Adam Silver said he and Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum will meet with groups interested in owning teams in the league. The meetings are scheduled to take place alongside the FIFA World Cup final on Sunday in the New York area.
Silver spoke after the league's Board of Governors meeting on Tuesday night in Las Vegas. Silver stated that the NBA has received interest from multiple European cities, including cities that did not receive solicitations for bids. He said the league discussed with its board the process of finalizing bids for an initial group of cities.
"We've had tremendous interest from multiple cities in Europe, including cities that we didn't ask for bids from," Silver said. " The NBA and FIBA announced plans last year to pursue the new European league. Silver said the launch remains planned for just over a year from now.
"Things are where I hope they would be," Silver said.
