NBA Selects 12 Referees for Spurs-Knicks Finals Series
The NBA named 12 officials to work the 2026 Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks. One referee will work his first Finals series after 18 seasons.
yardbarker.comThe NBA announced the 12 referees selected to officiate the 2026 Finals series between the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks. The list includes one first-time selection who had previously served as an alternate in 2021 and 2022. The league typically reveals game crews around 9 a.m. on game days.
Foster received his 19th Finals assignment, the highest total among active officials. The remaining officials are Tony Brothers in his 15th Finals, Marc Davis in his 15th, James Capers in his 14th, Zach Zarba in his 13th, John Goble in his 10th, Josh Tiven in his seventh, James Williams in his sixth, Courtney Kirkland in his fifth, Sean Wright in his third, and Tyler Ford in his second.
The league released the full roster on Tuesday. Finals officials receive special white warmup jackets; the first-time selection already owns two from prior alternate roles.
The first-time referee spent the weekend checking email every two minutes while awaiting the announcement. He received a call from the NBA's executive vice president and head of referee operations while returning from a visit to Virginia. "Very emotional moment, very emotional moment for me, because I've been right there on the doorstep for so many years," the referee said.
He noted this marks his 18th season and described the personal nature of each official's career path. The referee was a second-round draft pick by the Houston Rockets in 1992 but never appeared in a regular-season game. He played overseas before beginning his officiating career and has worked more than 1,000 NBA games since 2008.
"Being selected to work the NBA Finals is the highest honor for an NBA official, and I congratulate them on an outstanding and well-earned achievement," said the NBA's president for league operations.
