Nick Faldo said Bryson DeChambeau has zero clue of strategy for links golf. Faldo made the statement to Sky Sports ahead of the 2026 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. ESPN reported that DeChambeau enters the event after missing the cut in three consecutive majors in 2026.
He shot a first-round 78 at Royal Portrush in 2025 after stating that driver would be key to conquering the course. Faldo, a three-time Open winner, said he has never attacked a links course. He described a conservative approach of feeding shots into play on fairways that are 20 yards wide.
DeChambeau is using a brand-new set of 3D-printed irons at the 2026 Open. He said the irons take about an hour to print through machining and printing processes. DeChambeau has two wins and three top-three finishes on LIV in 2026.
He told Sky Sports that the course tests every facet of his game and that he can give himself a chance if he feels good.
