OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-Live Voice Model to ChatGPT Users Starting July 8

OpenAI launched GPT-Live, a new voice model for ChatGPT, on July 8, 2026. The rollout started the same day in the iOS and Android mobile apps as well as the web interface. GPT-Live uses a full-duplex architecture that lets the model listen and speak at the same time.
This design supports live translations and more natural conversation timing. The model also delegates complex tasks such as web searches or deep reasoning to OpenAI’s most advanced systems and returns answers in real time. OpenAI stated that GPT-Live has a more defined and enjoyable personality than earlier versions.
Users can access the feature by tapping the voice button in the app. Sam Altman said on July 8, 2026: “GPT-live (next-generation voice) launches today in ChatGPT. it feels magical and ‘real’. ” @sama reported that the rollout will reach all users over the next few days.
GPT-Live will become available through the OpenAI API in the near future.
