Sutherland said he was disgusted and frustrated by the violence shown toward officers. He said one officer suffered facial injuries and the other had bruising to the body. "First and foremost, I'm so grateful that only two officers have suffered serious injury," Sutherland told BBC Scotland News.
" Police Scotland reported 10 arrests in the Trongate and four at Celtic Park, with more expected after review of CCTV footage. Four additional arrests were made in Edinburgh.
Sutherland said Celtic FC needed to step forward to ensure there was no repeat of the disorder next year. He said the force had been critical of the club for failing to bring forward a plan for fans to celebrate safely. Glasgow City Council said the majority of fans had celebrated appropriately and complied with a request to stay away from Trongate.
It described the behavior of some people as an embarrassment that let down the city, their club and fellow fans.
At the end of Celtic's 3-1 win over Heart of Midlothian, fans spilled onto the pitch as the third goal went in. Hearts condemned the menacing and threatening atmosphere inside the stadium and said staff had to leave immediately without post-match media duties.
The Scottish Professional Football League condemned the pitch invasion but said the referee had informed it that the match had concluded and had not been abandoned. The league said it would assess the referee and match delegate reports before deciding on any punishment.
