Rescue Underway After Attack on Container Ship Off Oman

Twenty-three crew members from the container ship GFS Galaxy were rescued after an attack off the coast of Oman on the morning of July 12, 2026. One crew member remains missing as search operations continue. Local authorities rescued the crew nine nautical miles east of Oman. India’s Foreign Ministry stated that ten of the eleven Indian nationals aboard have been rescued.

India’s embassy in Oman is coordinating with Omani authorities on the search-and-rescue operation. The ministry condemned the attack on the Indian-crewed vessel and called for immediate de-escalation of attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

US forces conducted air strikes on a military installation on the outskirts of Yasuj in southwestern Kohgiluyeh Boyer-Ahmad province. Additional strikes hit cities including Sirik, Jask, Bandar Abbas, Kangan, Bandar-e Deyr, Asaluyeh, and areas near Konarak and Chabahar, as well as Qeshm Island.

These strikes formed the third round of US attacks on Iran in the preceding week. Iran responded with attacks on countries hosting US forces. Omani state media reported that drones targeted sites in Musandam governorate. Iran’s IRGC claimed a heavy and surprise attack on logistics support centres and refuelling platforms at the port of Duqm in Oman’s al-Wusta governorate.

Three missiles launched from Iran fell in different locations in Jordan at dawn without causing casualties. Air raid sirens sounded for the third time that morning in Bahrain. Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke by phone with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi about the evolving regional situation and stressed the need for de-escalation and restraint.
