Ronald Fischer, 70, a former anesthesiologist listed among Rhode Island’s most-wanted fugitives, was arrested last week after federal and state authorities boarded a 56-foot sailboat off the New Jersey coast, @statnews reported. The vessel was registered to Richard Graydon, an alias Fischer used while evading capture.
Fischer disappeared in 2005 during his trial on first-degree sexual assault charges and remained at large for two decades.
He was later convicted of sexual assault. Under the Graydon name, Fischer was hired last March as chief medical officer at Immix Biopharma, a Los Angeles-based biotechnology company. He was described in company materials as a doctor and seasoned drug development executive.
U.S. Marshals confirmed the boat registration linked the alias directly to Fischer. The arrest ended his 20-year period on the run.
