Robert Lewandowski agrees to two-year deal with Chicago Fire

Robert Lewandowski has agreed to join Chicago Fire on a two-year contract. The 37-year-old Poland international left Barcelona at the end of the 2025-26 season after his contract expired. Lewandowski visited the club and the city two weeks before June 28 and will sign the deal early the week after that date.

Chicago Fire had placed him on their discovery list in December 2025 and held talks with the player at that time. Chicago Fire sit third in the MLS Eastern Conference after reaching the playoffs for the first time last season. The team returns from the World Cup break on July 17 against Vancouver, with Lewandowski's possible debut listed for July 16.

Lewandowski spent 12 seasons in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, winning 10 league titles and leading Bayern to the 2020 Champions League title. He moved to Barcelona in 2022, scored 120 goals in 193 games, and helped the club win three La Liga titles plus the 2025 Copa del Rey. He started only 17 league games for Barcelona last season due to injuries.

AC Milan and clubs in the Saudi Pro League also showed interest in the player. Chicago has one of the largest Polish communities outside Poland.
