The San Diego Padres released infielder Pablo Reyes after an injury setback ended his latest attempt to return to the major leagues, Forbes reported. Reyes, 32, signed a minor-league contract with the Padres this season. 491 before missing time in late June.
The team placed him on the injured list that month, and the release followed. Reyes has played seven major-league seasons with the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers and Oakland Athletics. He appeared in 25 games for the Yankees in 2025 after signing a minor-league deal the prior year and making the Opening Day roster.
He also played more than 80 games for the Red Sox across two seasons. Forbes reported that Reyes built a reputation for defensive versatility and for securing opportunities with multiple organizations. His performance at Triple-A this season leaves open the possibility of another minor-league contract.
