First-year coach Gordie Herbert and general manager Rowan Barrett set the new requirement that players must commit for three years to remain eligible for the 2027 World Cup and 2028 Olympics. "If guys don't commit this summer, they're not in," Herbert said. Herbert said past teams focused on getting the best individual players.
"To a certain extent, in the past, we used to say with the national team, get our best players to play. It's not enough," he said. " Canada earned bronze at the 2023 FIBA World Cup and reached the quarterfinals at the 2024 Olympics before losing to France.
