Shohei Ohtani to Serve as Designated Hitter in Dodgers Series at Yankees

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani will be in the lineup as a designated hitter at minimum when the team opens the second half of the season with a three-game series at Yankee Stadium beginning Friday. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that Ohtani had fluid drained from his left knee to relieve irritation after Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks and did not receive an injection during the procedure.
Ohtani is taking a few days of vacation before the second half, Roberts said.
The four-time MVP was previously ruled out for Tuesday's All-Star Game. It remains undecided whether Ohtani will pitch during the Yankees series. "We haven't decided that yet," Roberts said. Ohtani last pitched on July 3.
293 with 22 home runs and 58 RBI while posting an 8-2 record with a 1.79 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 85 2/3 innings over 14 starts this season. The two-time World Series champion Dodgers open the second half Friday in the Bronx.
