Major commercial banks in South Korea on Wednesday announced financial support measures for suppliers of Homeplus Co. after the Seoul Bankruptcy Court terminated the retailer's rehabilitation proceedings last week. Shinhan Bank said it will offer low-interest loans of up to 500 million won to suppliers facing liquidity difficulties due to delayed payments from Homeplus.
The bank will also provide interest rate discounts of up to 1 percentage point and waive overdue interest charges for companies with delinquent loans. Hana Bank will provide emergency business capital loans of up to 500 million won to partner companies, with interest rate discounts of up to 1.3 percentage points. Woori Bank and Kookmin Bank unveiled similar support measures.
Homeplus, wholly owned by private equity firm MBK Partners, entered court-led rehabilitation proceedings in March 2025 amid a prolonged downturn in the discount store sector. The company operated 67 stores nationwide as of June 2026.
