SSG Landers Release Pitcher Anthony Veneziano After 6.10 ERA Season

The SSG Landers terminated their contract with starting pitcher Anthony Veneziano on July 4. The 28-year-old left-hander finished with a 6.10 ERA and a 2-5 record across 16 starts in his first KBO season. Veneziano allowed at least one run in 15 of those outings.

He recorded a 7.23 ERA in four April starts and a 7.31 ERA in five June starts. The Landers signed Veneziano in January after their initial agreement with Drew VerHagen ended due to a failed physical. Yonhap reported the team will announce a replacement shortly.

SSG holds the highest team ERA in the league at 5.79. Other foreign pitchers also struggled: Mitch White posted a 4.11 ERA in six appearances before his June release due to a shoulder injury; Ginjiro Hiramoto went 0-3 with a 9.56 ERA in four outings before his early June release; Thomas Hatch is 1-2 with a 7.08 ERA in four starts since joining in mid-June; and Asian-quota pitcher Shota Takeda stands at 1-7 with a 7.41 ERA.

The Landers endured a franchise-record 13-game losing streak earlier this season and currently sit in ninth place in the 10-team KBO at 30-48-3.
