Super Typhoon Bavi weakened slightly outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday morning but remained at super typhoon intensity. As of 10 a.m. on July 7, the storm's maximum sustained winds measured 185 km/h with gusts up to 230 km/h. The center was located 1,845 km east of Central Luzon and moved west-northwest at 20 km/h.
Forecast and expected track The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said Bavi is likely to maintain super typhoon strength when it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday evening or early Wednesday.
It will receive the local name Inday upon entry. The agency added that Bavi may gradually weaken into a typhoon by Thursday as it passes near extreme Northern Luzon and heads toward Japan's Ryukyu Islands. Landfall in the Philippines remains unlikely.
Wind signals and monsoon effects PAGASA expects to raise tropical cyclone wind signals over the northern and eastern portions of Northern Luzon beginning Tuesday evening or Wednesday. The highest signal level could reach No. 2 or 3. The storm and the enhanced southwest monsoon will bring strong to gale-force gusts to most of Mindanao on Tuesday, to large parts of Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao on Wednesday, and to most of the country on Thursday.
Rainfall and sea conditions Moderate to heavy rain is forecast from Wednesday noon to Thursday noon in Antique, Negros Occidental, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani. Additional areas may see similar rainfall from Thursday noon to Friday noon. PAGASA plans to issue a gale warning by Wednesday for rough to very rough seas along the northern and eastern seaboards.
