Thai Pitch at Cannes Announces 11th Edition for May 18–19

The 11th edition of Thai Pitch at Cannes is scheduled for May 18–19 at the Thai Pavilion in Village International. Three Thai feature projects will be presented during this event. The initiative is backed by Thailand's Ministry of Culture and the Department of Cultural Promotion.

Meetings for all three projects will be coordinated by producer Raymond Phathanavirangoon. One of the featured projects is titled The Weight of Ash, directed by Ekachai Uekrongtham and co-produced by Monticha Mathanukroh. The film is set in Bangkok in 1944, following a young Thai nurse who takes religious vows at a Buddhist monastery while caring for a wounded enemy soldier.

Another project, So Long, Maesalong, is directed by Thanakrit Duangmaneeporn and produced by Itt Patiparn Boontarig. This film is set in the 1990s in Mae Salong and tells the story of Tuan, a Thai-Chinese man returning from Taiwan amid the backdrop of a killed village headman and the Golden Triangle's opium trade.

The third project, The Apocalypse of Bees, marks the feature debut of director Nuntanat Duangtisarn and is produced by Patchara Eaimtrakul.

The film explores themes within the contemporary art world, involving a filmmaker named Film and an exhibition featuring a beekeeper sealed in a glass room. Projects were selected by a committee comprising Donsaron Kovitvanitcha, Pimpaka Towira, Phathanavirangoon, Chalida Uabumrungjit, and Kong Rithdee.

Previous Thai Pitch at Cannes alumni include notable films such as Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit's Die Tomorrow and Jakrawal Nilthamrong's Anatomy of Time.
