More than 70 ICE Out rallies and nearly 700 voting rights events are scheduled across the United States this weekend. Organizers also plan over 100 demonstrations against data center expansion in 40 states. The actions respond to recent fatal shootings and upcoming midterm elections.
The GuardianThousands of Americans are expected to protest across the United States on the weekend of 18-19 July 2026 over ICE violence, voter suppression and datacenter construction, The Guardian reported. More than 70 ICE Out rallies are set for 18 July as part of a National Day of Action demanding justice for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Joan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, two men fatally shot by ICE agents in the same week.
Joan Sebastián Durán Guerrero’s death marked the 11th fatal shooting by federal immigration officials since the start of President Trump’s second term.
The anti-ICE actions include demonstrations and vigils sponsored by groups such as the Answer Coalition and 50501. Hunter Dunn, national press coordinator for 50501, said a lot of groups are signing on because they agree that ICE is terrorizing communities and that the agency must be abolished.
Paul Ramirez, a co-founder of the immigrant rights group Valley Defense, which is holding an ICE Out rally and vigil in North Hollywood, California, said people are tired of seeing this every single day but will continue fighting.
A coalition of voting rights groups has planned nearly 700 events across three days as part of the Good Trouble Lives On national weekend of action, which honors the legacy of the late congressman John Lewis. Last year’s event drew tens of thousands of people. The actions feature teach-ins, voter registration drives, community block parties and sermons.
Barbara Arnwine, president and founder of the Transformative Justice Coalition, one of the groups spearheading the campaign, said organizers want participants to become voting rights activists rather than just attend events. Daryl Jones, a lawyer with the Transformative Justice Coalition, said he expects at least 100,000 people to attend and hopes to engage a quarter of a million people through voter education and registration efforts.
Organizers said the campaign coincides with a supreme court ruling that gutted the Voting Rights Act and prompted southern states to redraw congressional maps, as well as the Save America Act that would ban mail-in ballots and impose new identification requirements.
Grassroots groups delayed or cancelled at least 75 datacenter projects worth more than $130 billion in the first three months of 2026, according to a Data Center Watch report. Humans First is organizing a nationwide protest against datacenter expansion on 18 July with more than 100 events planned in 40 states.
Amy Kremer, chair of Humans First, said in a statement that no issue ignites anger among the conservative base more than big AI data centers, which are often beneficiaries of corporate welfare and forced on communities that do not want them.
