Toronto to Spend $380 Million Hosting Six 2026 World Cup Matches at BMO Field

Toronto has projected gross expenditures of $380 million to host six 2026 FIFA World Cup matches. 6 million for capital expenditures. 9 million under the same budget.

The city added 17,000 temporary seats to BMO Field; all temporary seating will be removed after the tournament. Planning for the event began in 2021. Canada Post is removing mailboxes and adjusting service near event spaces.

Commercial trash collection has shifted to delayed holiday schedules during the tournament period. The June 11 Fan Festival was canceled due to weather. Toronto faces a reported $5 million budget gap for the festival linked to higher-than-expected costs.

Chief Financial Officer Stephen Conforti stated authorities will continue to review revenue and cost projections, with a final accounting provided after the tournament. Ticket prices for Canada’s June 12 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina started at $1,300 and reached $3,360 for front-row seats.

FIFA On Location lists single tickets for the July 2 match at $5,350 and for the June 23 Panama versus Croatia match at $3,450.

Los Angeles is hosting eight matches. Mayor Karen Bass stated taxpayers will not be on the hook for hosting costs. An estimated 500,000 soccer fans are expected to pass through the stadium in Los Angeles, and LA Metro plus transit partners are dedicating direct service to each match.

Vancouver is hosting seven matches at BC Place, with the first scheduled for June 13. BC Place underwent millions of dollars of upgrades ahead of the tournament. Contracts from Houston, Dallas, Seattle and other cities show nearly all costs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup fell upon the host cities.
