U.S.-Iran Talks in Switzerland End First Round, Technical Discussions Continue

High-level negotiations in Switzerland seeking a permanent end to the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran concluded after one round, mediators said early Monday. Technical talks will continue in the same location for the rest of the week. The U.S. and Iranian delegations met following the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding.

The Iranian delegation temporarily walked out after statements by U.S. President Donald Trump that included threats of strikes. Negotiators will seek to resolve sensitive issues such as Tehran's nuclear program and stockpiles of uranium.

Mediators described the conclusion of the first round as the end of the current high-level phase. Technical teams are expected to address remaining differences before any further high-level meetings. No date was announced for a possible resumption of senior-level talks.
