The first quarter of 2026 recorded a gain of 18,000 manufacturing jobs, with 2,000 added in January, 1,000 in February, and 15,000 in March. This marked the first quarterly increase since the fourth quarter of 2023, when employment was flat. Earlier quarters under the prior administration posted larger gains.
The first quarter of 2022 added 137,000 jobs, the second quarter of 2021 added 18,000, and the third quarter of 2021 added 146,000.
