Ukrainian officials stated that forces carried out a long-range drone attack on a Russian oil refinery. The strike targeted the Syzran facility in western Russia, according to a post by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Video footage shared in the post showed flames and black smoke at the site.

Officials said the operation was conducted jointly by the Special Operations Forces and Ukraine's Security Service.

Two people died and several others were injured, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, the governor of Russia's Samara region, announced. Russian authorities have not released further details on the extent of damage. Ukraine has conducted similar strikes on Russian oil infrastructure in recent weeks. Officials said another refinery in Kstovo was hit on Wednesday.

Ukrainian forces launched a large drone attack on the Moscow region over the weekend. The Russian Ministry of Defence reported that air defences intercepted more than 550 drones across the country. A Russian attack earlier this week on the Dnipro region involved 524 drones and 22 missiles and lasted more than six hours. Officials said the attack struck residential buildings and energy facilities.
