Utah Court Hears Roommate Testimony in Tyler Robinson Murder Case as Hearing Continues

A Utah court heard testimony on 9 July 2026 from Lance Twiggs, the former roommate and romantic partner of Tyler Robinson, who is accused of fatally shooting Charlie Kirk. Twiggs stated that Robinson admitted the killing to him, cried afterward and said he wished he had not done it. The statements came during an investigative interview taped in April 2026 that prosecutors played in court.

Robinson, 23, faces aggravated murder and other charges in a possible death penalty case. He has not yet entered a plea. Prosecutors also showed images of the alleged murder weapon, a bolt-action rifle, along with engraved bullets and cartridges recovered at the crime scene and at Robinson's residence.

Inscriptions included "If you read this, you are gay" and "Fascist! ". A cartridge marked "Test Shot" was found at the shared home. Twiggs said Robinson asked for an engraving tool months before the shooting, claiming he wanted to inscribe bullets for a camping and hunting trip.

On the day of the shooting, Robinson left the apartment around 04:00. After the shooting at Utah Valley University, Robinson texted Twiggs to look under his keyboard. A note addressed to "Luna" stated Robinson had taken the opportunity to shoot Kirk and wished they could have lived in a world where it was not necessary.

Robinson later texted that he was the one who did it. He said he was leaving Orem, more than 200 miles from the apartment in St George, southern Utah.

Robinson arrived at the Washington County Sheriff's Office around 21:00 on 11 September 2025, accompanied by his parents and a family friend, to turn himself in. An FBI report stated that DNA belonging to Robinson and Twiggs was found on a rifle, screwdriver and towel recovered at the scene. Twiggs was granted immunity from prosecution in exchange for cooperating with investigators.

Kirk, 31, a father of two and founder of Turning Point USA, was pronounced dead in hospital after being shot once in the neck.
