Sega announced that Virtua Fighter Crossroads will be released in 2027. The announcement came during Summer Games Fest Live 2026 with the premiere of the first full trailer for the game. The trailer introduced a new character named Cielo and showed scenes that could form the basis of a story mode. The footage emphasized narrative elements more than gameplay mechanics.
Studio has worked on the Virtua Fighter project since at least 2024. Prior to the new trailer, only a teaser and limited gameplay footage had been released. The trailer depicts close-quarters, one-on-one combat and includes a sequence in which Cielo throws an opponent into electrical cables. The game is expected to retain the series' focus on fighting tournaments while adding story structure.
