Wales defeated Fiji 39-24 at Cardiff City Stadium in the opening match of its Nations Championship campaign. Wales scored tries through Jac Morgan, who crossed twice, along with Rhys Carre, Josh Adams, Ryan Elias and Eddie James. Dan Edwards and Sam Costelow added nine points from kicks.
Fiji replied with three tries from Pita-Gus Sowakula, Elia Canakaivata and Selestino Ravutaumada. Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula kicked nine points for the visitors. Fiji, ranked ninth in the world and two places above Wales, were designated the home team after World Rugby allowed their home fixtures to move to the northern hemisphere.
The build-up to the match had been overshadowed by a players’ pay dispute that was settled by the Welsh Rugby Union on Wednesday. Wales had won 12 of the previous 15 meetings between the sides, with one draw. Fiji recorded their first victory in Cardiff at Principality Stadium in November 2024.
