Wild acquire Coleman and Maatta from Flames

The Minnesota Wild acquired forward Blake Coleman and defenseman Olli Maatta from the Calgary Flames on Thursday. The Flames received defenseman Jake Middleton and three draft picks, including a second-round selection in 2029. Calgary also agreed to retain 50 percent of the $4.9 million owed to Coleman in the final year of his contract.

Coleman, 34, has 10 seasons of NHL experience and recorded 20 goals and 35 points in 2025-26. Maatta is a 13-year NHL player noted for his defensive play. Middleton, 30, departs Minnesota after four-plus seasons.

The Wild signed Maxim Shabanov to a $1.6 million contract for next season after the New York Islanders declined to re-sign the Russian winger. Minnesota also re-signed defenseman Zach Bogosian for $1.25 million and right winger Nick Foligno for $900,000, both on one-year deals.
