theverge.comX introduced new video editing and recording features in its iOS app on July 6, 2026. The tools allow users to overlay video captions in multiple languages and customize their appearance. They also include green-screen options that draw from photos in a user's camera roll or other posts on the platform.
Nikita Bier, X's head of product, posted about the launch and said one priority is to give creators tools for original content and to reward those creators. He added that more updates to the video editor are planned in the coming weeks. The features are intended to make videos on X original material that does not appear on other platforms.
Bier noted that many posts from top accounts contain stolen material, sometimes years after the original content went viral. He said posts containing videos already account for close to half of impressions on the network. The video editor and recorder are available first in the iOS app while the Android version is rebuilt.
In April, Bier said X was identifying and suspending 208 bots per minute. He also said half the product team was working on features to reduce spam.
