New York Yankees left-hander Max Fried is scheduled to face hitters in a live batting practice session for the first time since he went on the injured list in mid-May, manager Aaron Boone said. Giancarlo Stanton, also on the injured list, is planned to face Fried during the session. Boone said Fried would throw close to 30 pitches over two simulated innings.
After the session, Fried could begin a rehab assignment or throw another live batting practice session. The three-time All-Star posted a 3.21 ERA in 10 starts before he was sidelined, ESPN reported. Stanton has been out since straining his left calf on April 24 and experienced a setback running the bases earlier this month.
Boone said the slugger had resumed his running program. 724 OPS in 24 games this season before the injury. "He's moving again with a little more intensity and hitting again against velo," Boone said.
Center fielder Trent Grisham, out since June 13 with a right hamstring strain, is scheduled to play in a rehab game on Tuesday and could be activated Wednesday or Friday. Third baseman Ryan McMahon, who landed on the injured list last Wednesday with a throat and ear infection, is in line to come off the list on Friday, the earliest day he is eligible.
