New York Assembly Member Posts Message Linking Palestinian Cause to Domestic Policy on Fourth of July

New York Assembly member Claire Valdez posted a message on X on Saturday that called for continued efforts toward liberation from Palestine to Puerto Rico along with a Green New Deal. Fox News reported that the post did not include any praise for the United States or its founding on the Fourth of July. Valdez also wrote that freedom requires healthcare, housing, education, and dignity on the job.

She won a Democratic primary election in June for an open House seat spanning Brooklyn and Queens with support from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The district's heavily Democratic character means she is expected to face little opposition in the November general election. Fox News reported that Valdez is backed by the Democratic Socialists of America.

She and other Democratic nominees including former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander and activist Darializa Avila Chevalier have called for ending military aid to Israel, Green New Deal-style legislation, and Medicare for All. The group is also likely to push for tax increases on the highest earners. Commentator Stephen Miller responded that the Fourth of July is not about Palestine.

Salem Radio Network host Scott Jennings stated that the modern Democratic Party views the Fourth of July as a fight to free Palestine. Journalist Brianna Lyman wrote that such individuals lack understanding of the Declaration of Independence and the purpose of government.

Former Biden White House press office Chief of Staff Yemisi Egbewole commented on the commitment some people have to being insufferable.

NewsNation’s Batya Ungar-Sargon noted that Valdez won rich and high-education precincts by 64 to 27 but lost low-income areas by 32 points and Black areas by 50 points. Fox News Digital reached out to Valdez’s campaign for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
