Darfur Governor Minnawi Accuses RSF of Inciting Salamat-Beni Halba Tribal Clashes, Calls for Immediate Halt
Minni Arko Minnawi urged tribal leaders to halt fighting in Darfur that he linked to militia policies. The statement was issued June 2 in Khartoum.
Minni Arko Minnawi, Governor of Darfur Region, called on June 2 for an immediate halt to tribal clashes between the Salamat and Beni Halba tribes. Minnawi stated that the clashes were fueled by policies of the criminal Al-Dagalo militia aimed at inciting tribal strife and divisions. He condemned the suffering of civilians, including women, children, and the elderly, as a result of recent events.
Minnawi urged elders and community leaders from both the Salamat and Beni Halba tribes to stand together to immediately stop the bloodshed. He warned against being drawn into plots aimed at fragmenting the social fabric and serving the agenda of the RSF militia.
Minnawi stated that protecting civilians and safeguarding their dignity is a national, moral, and humanitarian responsibility shared by all.
The statement was issued in Khartoum, according to Sudan News Agency reporting distributed by AllAfrica.
