A drone struck a passenger bus traveling from Moscow to Simferopol in the early hours of Wednesday, killing eight people and injuring ten others in the Russia-controlled part of Ukraine's Donetsk region. Denis Pushilin, the Kremlin-installed leader of the Donetsk region, said the bus carried 53 passengers at the time of the attack.

Russian state media reported the incident and said investigators had opened a criminal case into what they described as a terrorist attack on civilians.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian forces hit an oil terminal in the St Petersburg area, with black smoke visible over the city. He described the strikes as long-range sanctions and said military targets in Russia's Tambov region were also hit. Pulkovo airport temporarily restricted flights after the overnight strikes.

Russian officials said they shot down 350 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions, including at least 50 over the Leningrad region northwest of Moscow. The bus attack came one day after Russia launched more than 700 missiles and drones into Ukraine, killing at least 22 people.

Russian officials said the strikes were a response to prior Ukrainian attacks and that all strike objectives had been achieved.

An 86-year-old woman was also killed in a separate drone attack in Ukraine's southern Kherson region during the same overnight period. Ukraine's air force said Russia launched 198 drones at several Ukrainian regions, with 189 shot down. Russian investigators said they were working to establish the identities of those responsible for the bus strike.

None of the victims' names have been released.
