" The demonstration followed the conviction last week of Vickrum Digwa, who was sentenced to life in prison for stabbing Henry Nowak five times in December 2025 after an argument. Police body-cam footage shows officers handcuffing Nowak as he lay dying. Nowak told officers he had been stabbed and said he could not breathe nine times, according to his father.

Nowak's father called the officers' treatment of his son inhumane and degrading. "With his final words, he told them that he could not breathe. " British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said there were serious questions for the police to answer.

"I have seen the body cam footage. It's harrowing," Starmer said. " Right-wing activists, including Tommy Robinson, a British anti-immigration campaigner with multiple criminal convictions, joined the protest.

Nigel Farage of the Reform UK party pointed to the case as evidence of "two-tier policing" and called for "pure cold rage" over the incident. Farage also demanded an end to what he claimed is "anti-white prejudice" in Britain.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood rejected the notion that police have different standards for different communities. " Mahmood said police officers who were not involved in the incident were receiving death threats. An investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct is examining the actions of the officers involved.

The court determined that Digwa had lied about being the victim of racist abuse.
