Kansas City Royals outfielder Jac Caglianone will participate in the Home Run Derby during All-Star Game festivities in Philadelphia on Monday. The 23-year-old becomes the third player officially named for the event, joining Tampa Bay's Junior Caminero and New York Yankees slugger Ben Rice.
Player background Caglianone hit nine of his team-high 14 home runs in June.
His average home run distance of 418 feet is tied for the major-league lead among players with more than 10 homers. The left-handed hitter, selected sixth overall in the 2024 draft, has 21 career home runs in two seasons. He is batting .258 with a .455 slugging percentage and 33 RBIs in 85 games this year.
Derby history Caglianone will be the sixth Royals player to compete in the Home Run Derby. Previous participants include Bo Jackson in 1989, Danny Tartabull in 1991, Mike Moustakas in 2017, Salvador Perez in 2021, and Bobby Witt Jr. in 2024. Witt finished as runner-up last year after hitting 50 home runs across all rounds.
