Utah Mammoth Matches Devils' Offer Sheet to Retain Hayton for One Year

The Utah Mammoth matched a one-year, $4.775 million offer sheet presented by the New Jersey Devils and signed forward Barrett Hayton on July 8, 2026. ESPN reported the signing. Utah general manager Bill Armstrong said Hayton is a key piece of the team.
"He's strong in the face-off circle, plays both sides of the puck and can play with anyone in our forward group," Armstrong stated. " Hayton, 26, said he is excited to remain with the group. "I'm fired up to get back with my teammates and remain in Utah," he said.
The Mammoth cannot trade Hayton for one calendar year. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2027, and can sign an extension with Utah beginning January 1, 2027. Hayton was selected fifth overall in the 2018 NHL Draft by the Arizona Coyotes.
The franchise relocated to Utah in 2024. He has 155 points in 362 NHL games including playoffs. He posted 20 goals and 46 points in the 2024-25 season. New Jersey general manager Sunny Mehta declined to comment further while the seven-day window remained open.
The Philadelphia Flyers extended a five-year, $90 million offer sheet to Anaheim Ducks forward Leo Carlsson. The Ducks have until July 11, 2026, to respond.
